Vaccinations

At one point in time, infectious diseases were the leading cause of death, but thanks to immunization programs less than 5% of Canadian deaths are due to disease.

Vaccination programs are intended to control or eliminate preventable diseases. The vaccines are highly regulated and are created from a weakened version of the virus or bacteria that cause the disease, which helps the body to establish immunity.

The World Health Organization recommends seasonal influenza vaccinations for:

  • Pregnant women
  • Children between 6 months - 5 years of age
  • People with specific chronic medical conditions
  • Healthcare workers

Make sure you and your loved ones are vaccinated this flu season!
